Olympus SP-600UZ
The Olympus SP-600UZ is the little brother of the 800UZ, but shares many of the same features. With a 15X optical zoom, and some clever features, the SP600 is in the market to compete with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 (costs about the same). The 600UZ is very easy to use, Olympus are very near the top of the league when it comes to ease of use and intuitive controls. With just 1 dial and a couple of buttons, yet a wealth of opportunities and clever features, the Olympus wins easily.
A large screen is great, but it comes at the cost of no eyepiece, and it takes a while to adjust to using the screen for taking images, and occasionally it is difficult to find your subject amongst a messy foreground/background, especially for a small subject like a butterfly.
There are plenty of 'clever & fun' options which seem great, but which you won't use huge amounts; Pinhole, fisheye, drawing, pop art. There are also some very useful features, especially the super zoom, but also the panorama and the time lapse. The video is good, but does need to be held very steady, so a small tripod or similar is a good idea.
