Mammals of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East
By S Aulagnier, A. J. Mitchell-Jnes, Francois Moutou, J Zima & Patrick Haffner.
There is a wider range of mammals alive and well in Europe than you might imagine, with some 400 species listed here (admittedly some only occur in North Africa or the Middle East.) There are some surprising animals that many people wouldn't normally associate with Europe, such as the Crested Porcupine (Italy), Flying squirrels (Russia), Bison (Poland, Belorussia, Lithuania, Russia & Ukraine), African wild cats (Crete, Sicily, Sardinia & Corsica) & Common genets (Spain). There are also the less spectacular, but exotically named Egyptian Tomb bat (And the Naked-rumped Tomb bat), Long-clawed mole vole & the Guinea Multi-mammate mouse.
Each species has a full range of topics covered, including ID, habitat, biology and an accompanying distribution map. In some cases there are also drawings of skulls & teeth patterns to help identify many of the small mammals.
