This giraffe, with very light coloured markings, was seen in the Kruger National Park in South Africa by John van Eeden in October 2009. The colourings are much lighter than on a 'normal' giraffe giving the appearance of a worn out carpet. It may well be a leucistic animal, compare it to the leucistic Giraffe that we had reported from Botswana last year, see below.

Leucism (or Leukism)
Leucism is a very unusual condition whereby the pigmentation cells in an animal or bird fail to develop properly. This can result in unusual white patches appearing on the animal, or, more rarely, completely white creatures.
