Caught on camera: a sssssurprise visitor to Brandon Marsh08/07/2010 14:12:04
Looking for food July 2010: Visitors to Warwickshire Wildlife Trust's nature centre at Brandon Marsh didn't have to look too far for signs of local wildlife when a large grass snake found its way into the visitor centre last week. Ian Jelley, the manager at the reserve, said: ‘It was a rather surprising to find such a large snake in the centre as grass snakes are usually shy creatures that try to avoid contact with people. ‘It probably came in as the weather has been so warm and whilst the snakes themselves do not require water their food source amphibians do.'

Interesting, as there was a similar incident on Saturday 3 July at Potteric Carr. A grass snake was inside some bread trays in the kitchen of the cafe at the centre. There is some information at www.potteric-carr.org.uk/ . I was one of the Society of Biology visitors and managed a couple of reasonable photos.
